Alabaster was one of the favourite materials of the ancient Egyptians. Some of the most beautiful items from Tutankhamen's tomb were made from it, and the skills that were used to make them are still alive today.

Alabaster was also used for buildings - a chapel at Karnak is made from it - and also for large monuments like Hatshepsut's Sphinx at Memphis.

Welcome to the Ibis Alabaster Factory......

The Ibis Alabaster Factory is one of the largest Alabaster factories on the West Bank. Situated on the main road through the Tombs of the Nobles next to the No Galag restaurant, you will see a wide range of alabaster goods, as well as other souvenirs such as statues, plates, clocks and jewellery, all at extremely reasonable prices. We are aware of the problems associated with the low weight allowances on certain airlines, and can provide you with a shipping service to your home if so desired.

On the next page, you will see a photo gallery which will give you a flavour of what you can see when you visit us.

Outside of the shop, you will be able to see workers making alabaster objects in much the same way as they were made in the days of the pharaohs.

So, when you are visiting the West Bank monuments, ask your driver to stop at the Ibis Alabaster Factory, where you will be given an explanatory tour of the souvenirs we have on offer, as well as a refreshing drink to cool you down after the heat of the day!
